God’s Tears – Oklahoma City

Posted by lboyd544 on May 21, 2013

I’ve seen them twice now. Twice when I was so overcome that there was nothing else to notice…no other sound to hear.  Twice, although I know He has cried softly and wept loudly, innumerable times over His people —– every where.  Real tears of rain, cold and wet and anguished.

No space left for strength or wisdom from mere mortals watching every step of the destruction and terror. We are the first viewers and actual observers of what will undoubtably be historical film for education and movie industries in years and years that come. Survivor guilt – one more time: the OKC bombing 1995; the Moore tornado 2013.

How to begin this day? The first day after?

“Business as usual”: work, haircuts, grocery store, community groups?

Watch TV and continue traumatizing ourselves….in search of something hopeful?

Lean into every word and whisper of “we will recover”; “we have recovered before”; “we are a strong and resilient people”; “we will care and rise together”?

Those paths seem reasonable. And horribly lacking.

5am: what will I do today? I don’t know. Is there any solace? I doubt it.

I know is that God cries too. It is time for crying. Immortal One, hold our hand.
