Picking Back Up:

Posted by lboyd544 on April 9, 2013

Obviously ‘been away’.  Mostly due to busy, busy work and public policy demands. But also due to needing break from ‘frustration’ caused by policy makers!

In that light, here we go again! Not only is Oklahoma continuing to refuse Medicaid expansion, yesterday OK Policy Institute noted that Oklahoma had the nation’s third-highest rate of hourly paid workers earning at or below the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour last year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Again, something is wrong with this picture! Our politicians and newspapers proudly tout how well OK survived the Great Recession of the past 3 years. Our legislators continue to push for tax cuts that will give an Oklahoman family a median cut of $39.00/year, while our schools have had budget cuts for several years.

Looks to me like the ‘great divide’ between have’s and have-not’s is what is floating Oklahoma financial success. And what about ‘tomorrow’? Kids in bigger classes, lacking new teaching materials, arriving at school hungry?

No wonder I needed a break. Sadly, nothing has improved while I was gone.
